Field Kit | |
The Colifast Field Kit is a portable tool for on-site rapid detection of total coliforms, thermotolerant coliforms and Escherichia coli in water. ● Fast screening test ● Most probable number test ● With/without testing Rapid screening test can provide results within 15 minutes to 2 hours, and can detect as low as 1 cfu (colony forming unit)/100 ml water sample in the presence/absence of coliform bacteria. All tests have a convenient user manual, which is simple to operate and does not require laboratory skills. The system can detect as low as 1 cfu/100ml, and the results can be obtained within 6-14/15 hours.
Method This technology is based on a chemical reaction between the substrate in the growth medium and the enzyme produced by E. coli. This chemical reaction produces a fluorescent product, which is measurable and related to the number of bacteria. The coliform growth medium contains an activator and growth nutrients as well as a compressed preparation that prevents the growth of non-coliform bacteria.
Add 10 ml of water sample to E. coli growth medium. The next culture step is to select the total coliform and heat-resistant coliform at 37P or 44P respectively. After incubation, the sample was transferred to a test tube and placed in the coliform micro-detector for fluorescence measurement. Depending on the analysis, this step may need to be repeated to detect changes in the fluorescent substance over time.
